Our first full day in Brussels we did an excursion with Viator the Brussels historical walking tour with chocolate & waffle tasting. We meet our guide in front of city hall which wasn't too far from our hotel. In the square our guide described and decoding the symbols on the different facades. City hall, King's house, house of the dukes, and many other important houses. We then went to our first tasting which was a small Belgium waffle. We each were given a plain waffle, which was crispy and sweet on the outside and soft inside. They had a huge selection of toppings but, that would have been difficult to eat while we were walking to our next stop. The Manneken Pis, the peeing boy, was nearby and our guide told us the history of the peeing boy. We then went to St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral before heading to Mary's Chocolatier for our second tasting. There are many chocolate shops in Brussels, Mary's has been around since 1919 and not only do they have stores in Brussels we saw them in other towns in Belgium also. We enjoyed our chocolates so much we came back later and bought over 100 Euros worth to bring home. 100 Euros for chocolates only bought 5 small boxes which only held 4 pieces of chocolate in each box for the grandkids, 5 pralines, and a bag of 4 chocolate dipped marshmallows with caramel. They were all very good though and if I went back to Belgium, I would look for a Mary's Chocolatier to buy some more chocolates. We ended the tour at the Place Royale. I highly recommend this tour we learned a lot and the guide was very informative.
